Are you passionate about building generational wealth in Black and brown communities? Would you like to be part of the change? Do you want to use your skills to make a difference and help lead a growing nonprofit organization?
Own It: Building Black Wealth is currently seeking dynamic and committed individuals to join our Board of Directors and other leadership positions. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise and experience to support a mission-driven organization that’s making a lasting difference in our community.
Let’s build something meaningful—together.
About Us
Our mission is to increase generational wealth in Black and brown communities through homeownership. We’re proud to offer an education program that provides people of color with the knowledge and support needed to make homeownership a reality. Paired with a down payment grant that has very few restrictions, we are rewriting the script of home buying. We have steadily grown each year, raising significant funds for down payment grants, expanding community participation with new partnerships, and empowering more Dane County families to become homeowners.
Position
We are looking for Board members who:
- Believe in our mission and values.
- Bring professional expertise (i.e. finance, marketing, fundraising, banking, real estate, law, nonprofit leadership).
- Are willing to commit time, energy, and ideas to support our strategic goals.
- Embrace collaborative leadership and community engagement.
Board member responsibilities:
- Attend monthly Board meetings (virtual and in-person).
- Provide strategic guidance and governance.
- Support fundraising and outreach activities.
- Serve on a committee or work group.
- Give 4-5 hours or more per month of your time (unpaid).
Ideal candidates will:
- Have prior nonprofit or board experience.
- Be available to commit to a 3-year term with opportunity for renewal.
- Bring diverse perspectives and lived experiences that reflect the communities we serve.
Diversity and Inclusion
We strongly encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds. We believe diversity strengthens our Board and our ability to achieve our mission.
